Emergent Bodies – 1998
Interlock, Artspace, Sydney, 1995
Emergent Bodies explores the dialogue between the human body and objects of technology traditionally understood as separate and autonomous. Small, hand-held devices are reconfigured as animated body-scale objects, suggestive of the body without specific reference to the biological body. The large protractor marks the exhibition space floor in the same manner as a protector functioning in the hand. The body-size pen rests on the inkwell before writing the next word. These works explore ways of invoking permeable body/object relationships – an interweaving of flesh and technology.
